OMG Yes, I'm Still Alive

I know.  I KNOW.  I am absolutely horrible at updating.  It's not that it's unimportant or that I'm so super busy either.  I have every good intention at least once a week of updating, but then I remember to change the washer.  Or run the vacuum.  Or organize the pantry.  Or play with my kid.  Or run some errands.  And what do you know?  A month has passed and still no update.

A thousand apologies to those who have been asking for an update.

So, since you're all just waiting on pins and needles for the all-important answer to "What have the Lockerby's been up to???," well wait no further!

We have:

1.) Gone to Rose-Hulman's Homecoming (which included a pep rally, fireworks, bonfire, and Harper's first ever 5K).

2.) Went to Harper's first dentist appointment (where she got a toothbrush with Sally from Cars on it and was so gooood for the hygienist)

3.) We are THISCLOSE to being completely potty trained (and while this is a cute picture, I have to say that I took it while she was on the potty at Kroger.  So sue me.  She looked adorbs and she's like the little girl from Monster's Inc.  You know, when Boo is waiting for her in the bathroom and she's being all cute and singing and taking FOR-EV-ER.  Yea, that's my kid.  So I get bored easily).
4.) We've been trying to use up as many eggs as we can since we have a metric ton of them (obviously that's an exaggeration BUT we are getting 4 a day which is pretty rockin')

5.) Went to a wedding where we had a blast (excuse Wade.  He couldn't be bothered to put his beer down for a family photo apparently)
6.) And just being the coolest kid you'll ever meet

THE END.

Around Here.

I've been trying to find fun things to do locally with Harper.  It's been challenging to say the least, mostly because of her age.  There are plenty of things to do for kids that are about 4 or 5 and up, but for toddlers there's not a whole lot going on.  But I've managed to find a few interesting things to do:

Strawberry Festival (we go to this every year, though)

Family Day at Saint Mary of the Woods College
Alpacas!

In a helicopter.

Learning to compost.

We have things planned just about every week (visiting Dobbs Park and the Native American Museum there, camping at some of the parks, arts and crafts and story time at the library and book store, and some community band concerts).  Plus we have a three week vacation to Vermont and California planned (and we're riding the train to California!) so we have a lot going on!  If you read this and you're local, let me know of anything that's going on!  I know some of you are always out doing things!

Fishing.

Last week a new park opened nearby that has a pond (small lake?) for fishing.  The park itself isn't spectacular right now as they haven't finished the landscaping and whatnot, but Wade is excited.  We went the second day it was open he was so excited.  We had bought Harper a fishing pole a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of going fishing so we seized the moment and went fishing.  Unfortunately, the weather turned a bit chilly and windy and Harper was due for a nap.  I think she lasted roughly 10 minutes before the crankiness won over her and we walked around the park until she passed out.  But I definitely feel we will be back shortly.

I Swear We're Not Pervs

so today i took harper to the grocery store (which, by the way, is like heaven to me).  no big deal.  just another ordinary shopping trip.

but harper hates to sit in seats: high chairs, booster seats, car seats, dining room table seats, booths...you get the picture.  but she absolutely HATES shopping carts.  she prefers to push them, which i sometimes let her do depending on how quickly we need to get out of the store.  today was a day i wanted to get my shopping done and go home.  and harper wanted to get out of the cart so bad.  she kept standing up which led to me telling her repeatedly to sit down or else she was going to fall out of the cart and crack her skull open (cause 18-month olds have reasoning skills, correct?)  anyway, she's trying and to get her legs out of the holes at the front of the cart but she doesn't have great dexterity yet (holy moly this kid's been walking for awhile now and STILL looks like the Frankenstein monster).  let me pause a moment to say that harper, who has been talking up a storm, isn't quite able to pronounce all syllables the way they're supposed to be said - i.e. sock is "gock" and stuck is "guck."  it's cool because i know what she's talking about usually.  however, at this moment - the same moment a mother with three younger children decideds to saunter by - the letter "G" has completely left harper's vocabulary.  so as she's trying to free her leg she looks up desperately at me and says, "COCK!  COCK!"  like, for real kid???  FOR REAL???  and i'm all, "yes, honey!  i know you're STUCK!  let momma help you!" and all the while (instictively maybe?? i don't know why!) i put my hand over her mouth and quickly retrieve her from the cart.  all the while this mom is looking at me like "OMG lady!  you're kid just said COCK out loud in public!  that's the most embarassing thing ever!" and she hurried down the aisle.  now, honestly, i was a teensy bit embarassed (can you tell?) but i was also quite amused.  i mean, come on, it is pretty darn funny.  and it's even more hilarious now as i think back on the scene and that woman's face.

so i finished up the shopping and we went to check out.  and harper decided it was a fabulous time to poo and shout "POOPY BUTT!" over and over as we exited the store.

seriously?!?  but totally my kid.

Future Book Nerd

Harper and I ventured out into the frigid Indiana tundra yesterday.  We lunched with Grammie (Hi Mom!) and then headed to Joann Fabrics so I could, umm well, spend some money.  I have several craft projects in mind, along with several I have already started, which is why Wade told me he was taking Harper for a couple of hours (day and time of my choosing) for me to do whatever I want.  HA! Can you believe it?  I have decided to use my free-time to either A.) work on these projects or B.) go get my FAVORITE iced coffee drink and then peruse the local yarn and book store down the street from the coffee shop.  I can't make up my mind!

So, back to our day.  I dragged poor little Harper all over the fabric store looking for the perfect fabrics, yarns, felts, and a hot glue gun.  (And decided to take 3 classes they offer: knitting, sewing, and quilting).  From there we ventured to the library where Harper got her first library card!

And checked out her first library books!

I think I was more excited about this than her, no?  She liked the games and yellow rocking kangaroo (that's been there since I was little, mind you.  Time for a renovation?  I think so).

I also signed Harper up for story time once a week and the Mother Goose reading group on Friday.  What can I say?  I was all about signing up for classes yesterday!

And finally we went to Kindermusik (which, I'm sorry to say, I don't have pictures of.  There's never an opportunity because we're constantly moving!).  Harper was thoroughly exhausted by then end of the evening and so was I!  I have to say that we had a very productive day!
