6 Weeks...

6 Weeks Pregnant

I believe my morning sickness is starting. For about the first 5 hours of my day I feel on the brink of getting very sick. Actually, it's kind of like being hungover, honestly! Yesterday was the worst. I couldn't eat anything and was in bed by 8.45 clutching my pillow and willing myself not to throw up. I just want to lay down all the time. I'm sitting at work now and I can feel myself getting sick. I am fairly certain my prenatals are aggravating my sickness, too, even though I take them at night. I eat crackers before I even get out of bed and then I go eat some breakfast (as much as I can). I was so hoping I wouldn't get sick like my mom did, but I don't think I'll be that lucky!

There's nothing much other than that right now. I wake up feeling sick, go to work and feel sick pretty much all day, come home and go to bed soon after I walk through the door. If I've got 7 more weeks of this, I might lose my mind :( The one positive is at least I know the baby is growing. And I will be able to use this as blackmail when the kid gets older.

Your Baby
This week starts a period of rapid cellular development for your baby-to-be, who looks like a mini tadpole, with a tiny head and tail. His or her eyes, ears and mouth have begun to form (though they're a little more Discovery Channel "creatures of the sea" documentary than Gerber Baby at this point).

Other exciting milestones include:

Your baby's heart is now beating to a regular beat, although it's still too faint to hear.

His or her arm buds are just beginning to, well, bud. They look like teensy swollen bumps at this point. In a few days, they'll resemble itsy-bitsy flippers.

Your baby has grown to ⅛ inch long—about the size of one of the chocolate sprinkles on your last cupcake (and your last ice cream cone, and your last sundae and your last giant cookie ... maybe there is something to those rumors about pregnancy cravings!).

5 Weeks!

I am officially 5 weeks today! Only 245 days to go :0)
I talked to my nurse today and she said my numbers look great (over 9,700 in a little less than 48 hours!), but my progesterone is a little low. They like for it to be a minimum of 15 and my level is 12. So, she is calling out a prescription for a supplement. I also scheduled the first ultrasound! It's on August 18th at 2pm! I will be about 7 weeks then and so we should be able to hear a heartbeat and see our little bean! I'm so unbelievably excited!

Today I actually felt nauseous, enough to make me think I was on my way to getting sick and I got dizzy. Even drinking water made my stomach do flip-flops! But I managed to eat some Fruit Loops and they settled my stomach. So, I guess if I feel queasy again, food is the answer! If this baby is anything like Wade, that is! :0)

It's still a bit surreal, though making all these appointments is starting to make it all sink in. I came home yesterday to find gift bags and flowers on the dining room table! My parents bought us some really adorable onesies and bibs! (I will post the pictures when I get home from work). They are so sweet! I just can't believe those little clothes will be on our baby one day!

4 Weeks 6 Days

Photobucket

It's surreal, honestly, to say that we are pregnant. Just two days ago it was the two of us (well, plus 3 hairy beasts), then, two pink sticks later, we're three. Those little $10 sticks changed our lives forever. It's still strange to think that there's a little bean developing inside me. It was there before I knew it, multiplying cells and releasing hormones.

I have had very few symptoms up till now. Sore and veiny breasts, fatigue (oh the fatigue! I thought I had mono), pressure in my lower abdomen, lower backache, slight nausea. These are pretty normal PMS symptoms for me. I was about 4-5 days late when I finally broke down and tested. I also broke down when the test line popped up AS SOON AS I peed on the stick. The control line was barely visible. An hour later, still in disbelief, I peed on another one and almost the exact same thing happened. I hurried to the doctor's office where they drew my blood. My HCG level was over 5,000, putting me in the 5-6 weeks category.

Tomorrow morning I get more blood drawn to make sure my levels are rising properly and to check my progesterone level. *crossing fingers* I had some spotting for about 45 minutes yesterday, which put the fear of God in me. I'm hoping and praying and wishing that everything looks good! I'm so nervous and scared and cautiously excited. Welcome Baby Lockerby! Please, please, please stick!

Your Baby
Your baby's microscopic heart begins to beat this week—although it won't be detectable with one of those cool Dopplers for a few weeks, so you'll have to wait a little longer to hear that satisfying "whoosh-whoosh" you're so anxious for. Here's what else is under construction:

With the beating of the heart, blood will begin to circulate throughout the body. Your baby's first organ system will be up and running!

The beginnings of the brain; the cardiovascular, nervous and reproductive systems; as well as all other major systems are under way.

Your baby's new digs—the amniotic sac and the placenta (aka the hotel and the restaurant)—are still forming at this point. (Maybe you should send a housewarming gift.)

All that high-speed development and your baby is only 2 millimeters long—about the size of a sesame seed (check one out next time you're chowing down on a bagel—you won't believe how tiny it is!). (From: http://3dpregnancy.parentsconnect.com/calendar/5-weeks-pregnant.html)
