Celebration.

We recently helped celebrate a friend of ours little boy's second birthday.  It was held at the park on a chilly, breezy day.  It was a fun-filled afternoon playing, and eating, and smashing a piñata.

The Zoo

On Friday, Wade and I took Harper to the zoo for the first time.

 Despite the nice, cool weather it was not the time to go.  Many, if not all, of the animals were out for seeing, but the attractions, snack stands, and rides were all closed.  We still had a good time, but we'll definitely go earlier next year.  Harper's favorite animals (let's not get into specifics here) were the fish and the momma and baby elephant:

Weekend Thrifting

I know I've said before that pretty much every Saturday my parents, Harper, and I venture out and scour thrift stores (also book sales, oh and yard sales depending on the weather).  The majority of things in our home is either generously given to us by parents/relatives or found second-hand (either from thrift stores or Goodwill, places like that).  I'm not too proud to admit it.  I think we have created a lovely, invited, warm home with our thrifted treasures.  There are so many wonderful things to be found hidden in these stores (and yes,finding them is the fun part!) and, not to go all hippie, I really feel like we're helping by buying second-hand items.  Perhaps when I get my own work space (ah!) I can add more handmade items.  A girl can dream, right?  Anyway, these are just some of the wonderful items I found this past weekend during my "treasure hunt":

:: Wooden bowls.  Lots and lots of wooden bowls!  (And, erm, just noticed the ladder in the second picture.  Ignore that.  Ahem.)

::  New (to me) cutting board shaped in what I think is a whale.  I could be wrong.  Nevertheless, it's fun!

::  Ah, my pantry.  It's a bit worn and in dire need of some love.  I think I'm up for the job, no?  I'm thinking some new knobs and a little fabric will spruce it up a bit!  (And if my brain functions the way I wish it would (ha!) then once the "make-over" is complete, I'll update here!)

This isn't everything, mind you.  I found a few spring-ish plates and some to go with a collection I've already started, a few knick-knacks, and a new pair of shoes (perhaps a photo when I wear them for the first time?).  Yes, indeed, it was a fabulous weekend for thrifting!

Weekends

Even as a stay-at-home momma, I still look forward to the weekends, even though Wade works A LOT during them.  Friday nights you can usually find me and Harper next door at my parents watching old black and white movies.  And since Wade bartends on Fridays and Saturdays, he doesn't get home until 4 or 5 in the morning.  I do not like to be home all night alone.  With a baby.  I'm chicken, okay?  Even with two dogs.  So we have been having slumber parties at my parents on Friday nights.  And we're usually up pretty early on Saturday to go to the Farmer's Market (yay!) and then do our thrifting.  Or book sale-ing.  Or whatever else the weekend brings.  For the most part, our Saturdays look like this:

:: Wake up, change/nurse Harper 3 or 4 times (HA!), get dressed
::  Breakfast of our choice
::  Head to first thrift store about 5 miles away.  Not the greatest place in the world, but Dad and I have been known to find some great treasures buried there (like my $3.99 canning pot with rack!)
::  Farmer's Market is usually the next stop (and if it's the second Saturday of the month we go down the street to our library's book sale!)
::  By now it's lunch time so we head to Wise Pies.  YUM!
::  Third thrifting stop is usually Goodwill.  Say what you will, but this is where the majority of Harper's clothes have come from.  And many items in  my home.  You wouldn't believe what people donate!  And it's waaay cheaper than buying anywhere else.  Plus, we're reusing items and reducing our carbon footprint this way.
::  By early to mid-afternoon we have listen to "The Wheels On the Bus" 1,346 times, Harper's had enough of her carseat, and we head home.
The rest of our day is spent napping, cleaning, cooking, gardening, and enjoying the outdoors.  We spend the night watching old movies (and sometimes newer ones), playing with Harper, and reading/eating (hey, it's that what weekends are for?)  Then Harper and I head home to cuddle, nurse, and read some more.
Sundays are never the same.  Though we usually have some sort of family meal and Wade generally has this day off so Harper gets some quality time with him!

:: A baby shower for a very sweet lady

:: A nap or two (or three)

:: Spending a lot of quality-time with loved ones
